Science education

Overview

The Medicine and Society Collection contains a large amount of science education materials, providing a unique source of educational reference materials on the methodology of teaching science, as well as providing educators with the latest information on the National Curriculum and science education policy.

Target audience

The collection is aimed at trainee and science teachers to help them update their knowledge and improve their awareness of the latest developments in science education.

Either individually or in INSET groups, teachers are welcome to use the collection to assist in resource selection, course preparation, update biological knowledge and improve awareness of developments in science teaching.

Students of post-16 courses are also welcome to use the collection either in organised class groups or individually as an extension of their school library service.

Available resources

The collection provides books, official reports, press cuttings files and statistical information as well as:

  • educational journals written for teachers and students
  • educational videos on curriculum-related biological and biomedical themes.

The collection focuses on the following subjects:

  • methodology of teaching science
  • latest information on the National Curriculum
  • science education policy
  • gender issues in science education
  • safety issues in science laboratories
  • teaching of science in schools
  • latest innovations in science education.

Many of our journals and databases also focus on science education.
