A collaborative project between the Business Archives Council and the Wellcome Trust.
This database contains entries for over 560 pharmaceutical companies which manufactured, dispensed, sold or distributed, medicines, drugs or galencials between 1750 and 1968. The companies listed catered primarily for the human market, although many early businesses dealt with veterinary medicine as well. Thus, references to veterinary products may occur. The database also
contains information about trade associations, trades union and employers' organizations allied to the pharmaceutical industry.
An entry gives the name, address, note on trading activity, historical information, a list of extant records and their location and a bibliography of publications. Some entries may have records at more than one location; this information is included.
The database is held in the Catalogue Hall of the History of Medicine Library. Some of the records included are held in the Archives and Manuscripts collections of the Library.
