British Social Hygiene Council (Formerly National Council For Combatting Venereal Diseases) (f.1914): worked closely with the Ministry of Health and was responsible for the propaganda and educational side of VD prevention from its foundation until the Second World War; as well as generally influential on questions of policy, provisions for treatment and the training of doctors and other health care workers both in the UK and the Colonies; minutes only of Council and committees survive plus journal Health and Empire (New Series 1926-40 only) SA/BSH
