Cloakrooms and lockers

Please leave coats, bags and umbrellas in the staffed cloakroom on the lower ground floor or use the token-operated self-service lockers.

Bags larger than 29 × 21 × 7 cm, including laptop bags, cannot be brought into the Library. We supply clear plastic bags for you to carry essential items up to the Library.

Restrictions on coats and bags protect the security of the collections and are a condition of admission.

Care of Library Cards

Library Cards remain the property of the Library at all times. You need to bring your Card with you each time you visit the Library.

Please inform the staff on duty if:

  • you change your address - so that we can update your user record
  • you lose your Card - so that it can be cancelled and a new one issued
  • you forget your Card - you will need to apply for a day visitor's pass to gain access to the collections.
