Wellcome Film

A new digital collection of moving images on 20th-century healthcare and medicine is now online. Over 450 titles - 100 hours of film and video - have been transferred and are freely available under Creative Commons licences. More information is available from our Wellcome Film FAQs.

The resource has been created by the Wellcome Library in partnership with JISC Collections. Highlights include:

• Sir Henry Wellcome in Gebel (or Jebel) Moya in Sudan
• story of the Wellcome Foundation Ltd
• breakthrough drug treatments which laid the foundations of the Wellcome Trust of today
• research into areas of tropical medicine such as schistosomiasis and the tsetse fly
• early bacteriological research into typhus and cholera
• reconstructed experiments in Ivan Pavlov’s laboratory
• forgotten treatment regimens for respiratory paralysis caused by polio
• UK public health information films on subjects such as immunisation and smoking.
